Cards cannot be played that share a type with the top card of the deck, but they can still be put into play through other effects.

Card types are Hero, Companion, Equipment, Quest, and Spell.

If the active ability is negated in response to its activation, then you still have to pay the mana (↑) cost.

The active ability can be negated in response to its trigger by either destroying Mind Spire Acolyte, removing it from the game, or causing it to lose its abilities.

Quests will still automatically come into play when they come to the top of the deck.
